Data Controllers sign the pledge
The BBC reports on the Information Commissioner's "Personal Information Promise". The idea is that signatories will go beyond what the Data Protection Act requires of them - being a response, it seems, to the depessingly large number of cases in which data have gone missing (sometimes, mercifully, only temporarily).
Information about the Promise can be found here on the Commissioner's website. It has an impressive list of signatories, but oddly absent are the government departments whose laxity in protecting data was the reason for doing this in the first place. No doubt they will take the pledge soon.
